About the Artist

"I reveal myself by creating portraits that speak beyond
their façade to the universal reservoir of human memories
and moments.  Through form, pattern and texture, I explore
ways to give voice to untold stories, emotions, and dreams.
My goal is to inspire and awaken the thoughts of the viewer
to their own familiar spaces and significance."
As a painter, muralist, and educator, Leslie Ansley has practiced her passion for art nearly 20 years,
observing and capturing the range of emotions known as the human experience.

Her work has been shown at the African-American Museum in Philadelphia, The Museum of Science and
Industry in Chicago, the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, The Three Rivers Arts Festival, and
several other noted galleries throughout the United States. In September 2007, she was honored as the
only local artist selected for "Preserving a Legacy" an exhibition at the 209/9 Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA,
which featured the work of world renowned artists, including Elizabeth Catlett, Charles Bibbs, Twin and
Jacob Lawrence.  In February 2008, her work will be featured at the National Black Fine Art Show in
New York City, and at the American Jewish Museum of Pittsburgh.

In addition, Leslie has created several murals for nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses and
communities in Pittsburgh.  Ms. Ansley's talents have been showcased in the local press, on talk shows, and
on news programs. She was also featured in two films, one on the lives of artists by acclaimed videographer,
Chris Ivey, and a PBS Documentary, "It's the Neighborhoods."
